Kommentar zum Film von " Zoë" bei Letterboxd:
"I think They Were Five wants to be a sweet and wholesome comedy-drama that is both a love letter to the proletariat and to the laborers, which is wonderful, and what most of the film delivers on, bringing forth an adorable romantic pairing, lovable characters (Tin Tin!!), and some nice portrayals of male friendship. Unfortunately thematically it really loses its way with the introduction of Gina, the ex wife of one of the five friends. Gina, a classic femme fatale to the extreme, drives a wedge between her former husband and one of his friends who she takes as a lover. This could be an interesting love triangle to explore, but Gina is such a misogynistic stereotype and she's so comically toxic and cruel that I just wanted her to get off screen instead of becoming such a major source of conflict for the latter half of the movie. For a story about five men winning the lotto, building a bed and breakfast and experiencing their friendships fragmenting, I don't understand why a filmmaker would make the source of conflict a woman when money is already such a major part of the story and something that is always coming between people. There's really fun commentary on aristocrats and the bourgeoise to enjoy, but the messages about money really stop short in a way that's super disappointing."
